Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about GameXP URL shortener. Can't find your answer? Contact us.

1. What is URL shortening and how does it work?

URL shortening is a technique used on the World Wide Web in which a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) may be made substantially shorter and still direct to the required page. This is achieved by using a redirect which links to the web page that has a long URL. GameXP acts as the middleman; when someone clicks your short GameXP link, our servers instantly look up the corresponding long URL and redirect the user there seamlessly.

2. Is GameXP completely free to use?

Yes, GameXP is 100% free to use. We offer all our core features, including custom aliases, link management, and click analytics, without any subscription fees or hidden costs. We support the maintenance and development of this service through unobtrusive advertisements on the site. You will never be asked to pay to create or manage your short links.

3. Do I need an account to shorten a URL?

No, you do not need an account to quickly shorten a URL. You can use the form on our homepage to instantly generate a short link. However, creating a free account unlocks powerful features such as the ability to edit destination URLs, view detailed click analytics, manage all your links in one place, and prevent your links from expiring due to inactivity.

4. How do I create a custom alias for my short link?

When you paste your long URL into the shortener box, you will see an optional field for a "custom alias". Simply type your desired text here (e.g., "my-new-video") before clicking the Shorten button. Custom aliases must be between 2 and 30 characters long and can only contain letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores. If the alias is already taken by another user, you will be prompted to choose a different one.

5. Can I edit the destination URL after creating a short link?

Yes, provided you were logged into your account when you created the short link. Simply go to your Dashboard, locate the link you want to change, and click the "Edit" button. You can then paste the new destination URL. The short link itself (the custom alias or the random string) will remain exactly the same, but anyone clicking it will now be redirected to the new destination.

6. How does click tracking work?

Every time a user clicks on your short link, our server records the event before redirecting them to the final destination. We log the timestamp of the click. If you are a registered user, you can view these statistics in your dashboard. You can see the total number of clicks a link has received since it was created, as well as the number of clicks received within the last 7 days.

7. Are bots and crawlers counted in my click stats?

No, we actively filter out known bots and crawlers. When a request is made to a short link, we check the User-Agent string against a comprehensive list of automated bots (such as Googlebot, Bingbot, social media preview generators, and various scraping tools). If the request is identified as coming from a bot, the redirect still functions normally, but the click is not added to your statistics. This ensures your analytics remain accurate.

8. How long do my short links last?

Links created by registered, logged-in users never expire as long as the account remains active and the content does not violate our Terms of Service. Links created anonymously (without logging in) may be purged from our system if they remain completely inactive (zero clicks) for an extended period of time. To guarantee the longevity of your links, we highly recommend creating a free account.

9. Is there a limit on how many links I can create?

Currently, there is no hard limit on the number of links a registered user can create. You are free to use GameXP for all your URL shortening needs. However, automated creation of links via scripts or abusive behavior that strains our servers is strictly prohibited and will result in account termination. Fair usage is expected from all our users.

10. What types of URLs can I shorten?

You can shorten almost any valid HTTP or HTTPS URL. This includes links to websites, articles, social media profiles, videos, and documents. We strictly prohibit shortening URLs that lead to malware, phishing sites, illegal content, spam, or any material that violates our Terms of Service. We actively monitor and remove links that violate these rules.

11. How is my data kept private and secure?

We take your privacy seriously. Your passwords are securely hashed using industry-standard algorithms. We do not sell your personal information or link data to third parties. Please refer to our comprehensive Privacy Policy for detailed information on how we collect, use, and protect your data while using the GameXP service.

12. What should I do if my link is not redirecting correctly?

First, double-check that the destination URL you entered is correct and currently active. If the destination website is down, the short link will appear broken. If you are a registered user, you can edit the link in your dashboard to correct any typos. If the problem persists and the destination is working, please reach out to our support team via the Contact page.

13. Can I delete a short link?

Yes. If you created the link while logged into your account, you can delete it at any time from your Dashboard. Simply click the "Delete" button next to the link. Please be aware that deleting a link is permanent; the short code will stop working immediately, and all associated click data will be permanently erased from our system.

14. What is the difference between All Time and Last 7 Days stats?

In your dashboard, you can toggle between viewing "All Time" and "Last 7 Days" statistics. "All Time" shows the total number of valid clicks a link has received since the moment it was created. "Last 7 Days" provides a more recent snapshot, showing only the clicks received within the past 168 hours. This helps you gauge the current popularity and momentum of your shared links.
